Meet Ken
Ken is the founder and maker behind The Driftwood Flag Co. Ken has been in the title insurance business, owned a title insurance agency, a real estate agent, and a real estate investor. His post and beam home in Greenport, New York, reflects this philosophy, incorporating reclaimed bricks, barn beams, and salvaged elements sourced from around the country.
Ken’s connection to American history is deeply personal. His father served as a navigator in a WWII Flying Fortress and learned to find destinations without computers or GPS, relying instead on skill, discipline, and precision. Ken believes his father would have been proud of Driftwood Flags, and that sense of legacy, purpose, and care continues in every piece he creates.
Ken’s lifelong work with architectural salvage and historically significant materials was later featured in Newsday, which highlighted his Greenport home and his approach to preserving history through thoughtful reuse and craftsmanship.

Our Flags
Each Driftwood Flag is handcrafted by Ken using driftwood collected along the shores of Long Island’s North Fork. Inspired by early American flag designs, every piece is assembled, mounted, and finished by hand, allowing the natural character, weathering, and variation of the wood to remain visible. All flags are made to tolerate weather so even if you intend to display inside, you can change your mind knowing the flag is ready.
Flags are available in select standard sizes, with custom and smaller sizes available upon request. Because each piece is made by hand and priced by craftsmanship rather than dimensions alone, the minimum price for any flag is $450. No two flags are exactly alike, and each reflects a balance of history, material honesty, and intentional design.

The Betsy Ross Flag is our foundational design and a tribute to the first American flag. Featuring thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the circular arrangement is the most historically recognized pattern, though early American flags often varied in star placement.
